EAL Support Program

HIA EAL program enhances students' English capabilities, comfort, and confidence for academic success. It accelerates English language skill acquisition through a diverse and challenging learning environment. Students collaborate in small groups, following a customized curriculum that promotes confidence and advancement in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The lessons and support  shall offer a variety of strategies and tools to help students acquire English for personal and academic purposes. Our thoughtfully developed multidisciplinary curriculum is anchored to the WIDA and California ELD language development standards. 

EAL Program includes EAL lessons and designated EAL teaching staff shadowing students in their content area classrooms, collaborating with the content area teachers to help students and document a EAL portfolio for each EAL student. EAL students will be evaluated at the end of each semester to guide our decisions as to whether or not a student may continue to need EAL support.
