Student Life
Model United Nations
These are some of the words students use to describe our Model United Nations program: nervous, anxious, scared; interesting, valuable, delicious. Some students are excited from day one, some students have no idea what they are getting into, and some join just to spend time with their friends. Whatever their reasons, students agree that the learning experience is a valuable exploration of political topics, history, and geography through debate and compromise. Each year, students tackle global issues such as child soldiers, economic diversification, preventing debt defaults, disarmament in the Middle East, protecting refugees, saving oceans, empowering women, and much more.
HIA students travel across Taiwan to research solutions, craft resolutions, and debate their ideas with hundreds of students from all over Taiwan. They recall intense debates between rival nations, the humorous antics of fellow participants, the recognition they receive for their exceptional research, and most importantly, the new friends and relationships they make along the way. With the help of our faculty and staff, HIA students have launched and sustained an MUN program that facilitates critical thinking, grit, and growth while adding to the earned prestige of our learning community.
