Our History

Hsinchu International Academy (HIA) was co-founded in 2022 by Dr. Jack Huang and Dr. Jase Lau under the STAR Korrnell Education Foundation.  HIA is part of STAR Korrnell Education Group founded by Dr. Johnson Huang in 2007. Dr. Johnson Huang is also the founder of Ton-Yen Healthcare Group, which started with the establishment of Ton-Yen General Hospital, a regional teaching hospital in Zhubei, in 1995.

STAR Korrnell Education Group is committed to provide a high quality bilingual education and to prepare students to become future leaders. Our founder Dr. Johnson Huang believes that just as the purpose of a hospital is to save lives and to alleviate pain, the mission of a good school is to influence the future generations and to create aspirations. STAR Korrnell Education Group now includes STAR Academy (daycare and kindergarten), Korrnell Kindergarten, Korrnell Academy, Hsinchu County American School, STAR Korrnell Institute, and Hsinchu International Academy.

HIA is dedicated to delivering a comprehensive international education to Taiwanese and expatriate students in grades 7-12 - preparing students for successful post-secondary studies both in Taiwan and anywhere in the world.  HIA operates as an Experimental Institute and shall seek accreditation candidacy status with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) in the Spring of 2024.
